Have Teenage Filipinos Lost Their Originality?

Boys Over Flowers. Temptation of Wife. Super Juniors. Girls Generation. SS501. Kim Bum. Ko Hye Sun. Korean fashion. These are only few of the many things that we watch, idolize, and imitate from the Koreans. Koreans are not the only people that we idolize and imitate. There are other countries like United States where we find Justin Bieber, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, etc.

Why are we fond of imitating people from other countries anyway?

My Work, My Identity

My dream is to become a successful cardiologist. Cardiology, the study of the human heart, is a very important job. As I have observed, many people now suffer from heart diseases and sadly many people have gone ahead of us because of this traitor disease. In the world of medicine, there's no room for errors. Even the smallest mistake can create the greatest problem because we are dealing with human life. Every action must be done carefully to avoid possible complications that will arise which could worsen the patient's condition. Every diagnosis is must be accurate. Each decision must be weighed before proceeding into the next step. In every treatment and cure which we plan we must hope that it will work.

After ten years, I would like myself to be identified by my work as a cardiologist.

Primarily, I would want this work to identify me as "Dixi the successful cardiologist who had saved many lives." In real life, most people prefer doctors who have successfully treated people. To become successful, one of the things I will do is to, be open to many ideas but not too open that it might distract my own decision making ability.  I think that this will help me make accurate diagnosis. This diagnosis will in turn lead me to find the right treatments or cure. Second, I will also keep up to be careful in everything that I do. The third is that I will allow only capable and trained persons to handle my patients. This is because, I want to ensure the safety of my patients. If something wrong will happen to them, the blame will always fall on me.

Second, I’d like to be described as “a competent and precise doctor.” To be competent, I will not merely rely on my ten years experience as a cardiologist. I must keep track of the latest technologies and innovations which have the potential to cure diseases. For example, I will join trainings, seminars, and conferences that are related to my work and those of which I believe will benefit me.

Third, I’d like to be described as “the cardiologist who trains interns proficiently.”  In a hospital, it is expected that there will be new doctors. These doctors must complete their internship before they proceed to their residency. Residency is the period of specialized training in clinical medicine or surgery in a hospital. I will train them proficiently by teaching additional knowledge which they must know. Another is that I will let them observe real diagnosis and treatments. If I am satisfied with their performance, I will allow them to handle my patients, in such a way that they will maintain a close observation.

To be known as a doctor is better but to be known through my work as a doctor is best.

Quote # 1 Unlocked

On my perspective, the passage clearly states that a person who does not act or accomplish something worthwhile in his life is considered worthless, unimportant, or undistinguished. He is basically nobody because there is no right or decent word which could be used to describe that person appropriately.

A person who does not exert any effort at all in that he is doing will not be able to achieve his dreams or aspirations. He won’t be able to satisfy those that are expected of him. He won’t be able to fulfill promises. In real life, it is what we do which defines us. It is how we manage our lives, how we interact, and how we strive to progress and be successful.

I agree with the thought of the passage. No person can become successful without exerting his effort. Every triumph and achievement begins with one step.

To illustrate my stand, I’ll take our own high school life as an example. As students, we could really never learn and be able to attain high scores if without exerting effort to listen, to understand, to outline, to make our assignments and projects, to read, and to fulfill the other requirements of our teachers and our school. I believe no one has ever failed doing his best because at the end of what we do we always gain some learning.
